Steubenville council approves $42K increase for wastewater plant structural evaluation (wtov9.com) — Steubenville’s council has approved an extra $42,000 to more thoroughly evaluate the aging wastewater treatment plant, bringing the study’s total cost to about $197,000. Officials say the 70-year-old building shows signs of structural failure, so they’ll use drones and scanners to map the structure and pinpoint needed repairs before problems worsen, even though there’s no money yet to replace it.

YSU excited about changes (weirtondailytimes.com) — Youngstown State University is moving quickly to relaunch the former community college campus in the heart of Steubenville as Youngstown State University–Steubenville. Branding changes, program planning, and building updates are underway, with nursing and police academy classes expected back on campus by summer and a carefully phased expansion of other programs to match Jefferson County’s workforce needs.

3. 1 man killed in overnight fire in local garage apartment (wtrf.com) — Firefighters from Steubenville joined crews from Wintersville, Mingo Junction, and Helendale in battling a deadly overnight garage-apartment fire on Montel Drive in Mingo Junction. One man was killed after the structure became too dangerous to enter as the roof collapsed, and investigators are still working to determine the cause. Crews and utility workers remained on scene through the morning to extinguish hot spots and secure the building.
