1. Streets flood as water main splits open in Struthers (wfmj.com) — A major water main break has shut off service to fewer than 100 Aqua Ohio customers along Youngstown-Poland Road and nearby side streets in Struthers, with repairs expected to take four to 12 hours. Police first noticed water bubbling through the pavement overnight, and the flooding prompted road treatment for potential icing. Residents in the affected area should prepare for temporary outages and slick conditions.
   

2. Struthers council providing new housing option for displaced Phoenix House residents (wkbn.com) — Struthers City Council has fast-tracked zoning changes so a former student housing building can be converted back to senior living, creating space for about two dozen displaced Phoenix House residents. While repairs at Phoenix House may take up to a year, United Way will keep covering hotel stays and meals until seniors can move into the new Struthers facility with city-supported transportation and services.
   

3. Volunteers step up to help SA's Red Kettle campaign (vindy.com) — A Struthers resident is among the neighbors helping keep the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign going strong in Mahoning and Trumbull counties through Dec. 24. With need for food and toys rising since the pandemic, organizers are seeking more volunteer bell ringers, saying just two hours of ringing can help provide more than a hundred meals for local families.
   

4. Rimedio-Righetti won't seek reelection as Mahoning commissioner (vindy.com) — Mahoning County politics are shifting again, and one key player has deep Struthers roots. Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Righetti will not seek reelection and is backing state Rep. Lauren McNally, while former Struthers City Council member and current county auditor Daniel Yemma is weighing a run for commissioner or reelection, amid a growing Republican presence in county offices.
