Summary of some of the police activity in Westlake.

Sleeping it off, with my handgun, in a car: A 28 year-old Cleveland man was found passed out in his car at a Sperry Dr. business on June 3. An open bottle of wine and a loaded 9mm handgun were found in the car, along with a bag of marijuana in his pocket. He was arrested for possession of marijuana, open container, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and having weapons under disability. The latter relates to his past domestic violence and felony convictions. He is also wanted out of Oregon, but authorities there will not extradite him from Ohio.
Car advertising internet scam: A Florida woman visiting family in Westlake during May lost $2000 to an Internet scam. She agreed to have her car decorated as a moving advertisement. The βadvertiserβ sent her a $2000 check and had her send back her personal check for $1500. The advertiserβs check was no good. The fraud was reported on June 3.
Argument over furniture leads to domestic violence: A 46 year-old Westlake man and his 28 year-old live-in girlfriend were both arrested for domestic violence on June 3. They had argued over furniture at their Westford Cr. home, then wrested, scratched, and hit each other. They also accused each other of drug abuse.

Runaway boy: A 2 year-old Jefferson Way boy bicycled off from his home on June 3 and was found by a passerby. He could not say his name, but was able to lead officers back to his house. Mom and dad were located and advised that he had escaped from a family gathering. The City Prosecutor will review the report for a possible child endangering charge. 696-KIDS was also notified.
Bad roommate: A Savannah Pkwy. Woman discovered that her former 59 year-old live-in boyfriend has opened up at least 10 charge accounts in her name and run up $62,000 in unpaid bills. He also wrote checks on her account for a total of $5700. She reported that matter on June 4; he has a pending domestic violence case in which she is the victim.

Funny money: A 58 year-old Rocky River man tried to pass a phony $10 at a Market St. store on June 4. He was also suspected of passing a bogus $20 there on June 3. All the counterfeit cash was seized pending a prosecutor review of the case.
Do you know who I am?: A 31 year-old Hilliard Oaks man tried to claim sanctuary at his home when stopped for speeding on June 6. He also purported to call the city law director and other government officials in order to have the patrolmanβs βbadge on the Mayorβs deskβ. The line must have been busy; he was cited for speeding and the officer is still employed. His 61 year-old father was a passenger and found it prudent to interfere with the stop by waving a plumbing fixture around and also claiming sanctuary for his son and declaring what an important person his son was. Dad was told to cooperate by the son; the City Prosecutor will consider an Obstructing Official Business against him.
