Youngstown Foundation awards $1.8 M in grants (vindy.com) — Youngstown residents are set to benefit from more than $1.8 million in new Youngstown Foundation grants supporting local nonprofits, including a major expansion at the Rescue Mission’s Youngstown shelter. Funding also backs mental health services for youth, arts education, first responder wellness, and multiple programs in Youngstown City Schools and area agencies, boosting services for families, seniors, and small businesses across the Mahoning Valley.

Ohio Speech and Debate Association recognizes Cardinal Mooney teacher, coach (wfmj.com) — Youngstown will host the Varsity State Tournament in March 2026, where Cardinal Mooney social studies teacher and coach Allyson Popichak will receive the Ohio Speech and Debate Association’s Linda Miller Award. The honor recognizes her early-career impact, dedication, and leadership in building a strong speech and debate program for local students.
   

3. Prison ministry provides Christmas magic for kids (tribtoday.com) — A Mahoning Valley prison ministry that regularly visits the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown hosted a Christmas party in Warren for children whose parents are incarcerated. Organizers say they aim to break the cycle of incarceration by supporting kids and easing reentry for former inmates, including a Youngstown man recently released after 25 years in prison.
   

4. Local organizations come together to support fathers (wkbn.com) — In Youngstown, several grassroots groups are teaming up to better support local fathers and their families through discussion groups and parenting programs. Evolve Innovation, United Returning Citizens, and the Urban Family Development Center are expanding services like RoundTables and the Dads2B program to help dads engage early, understand maternal health challenges, and strengthen family stability across the Valley.
