1. Annual holiday blood drives set in Valley (vindy.com) — Youngstown residents can give blood Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium, with another drive that evening in Austintown and one today in Warren. The Red Cross says holiday schedules and winter illnesses strain supplies, and donors will receive a T‑shirt, refreshments, and raffle chances while helping keep the Mahoning Valley’s blood supply strong.
   

2. Kwanzaa kicks off Friday in Youngstown (tribtoday.com) — Several Kwanzaa celebrations are planned this week at churches, a library, and community organizations across Youngstown, highlighting music, dance, storytelling, and a community feast. Events run from Friday through Dec. 30, with themes like unity, self-determination, and purpose, and organizers say COVID-19 precautions such as temperature checks and hand sanitizing will be in place.
   

3. Mahoning Valley students named to PennWest University's Fall 2025 Dean's List (mahoningmatters.com) — Several Youngstown students have earned spots on PennWest University’s Fall 2025 Dean’s List, highlighting strong local academic achievement in fields from biology and nursing to early childhood education. The list also features students from nearby Canfield, Struthers, and New Middletown, all meeting the 3.4 GPA and 12-credit requirement.
   

4. Food drive helps those in need (vindy.com) — A Warren food drive is sending donations to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley in Youngstown, helping stock about 60 area pantries and kitchens. Organizers and donors framed the effort as a response to harsh economic times, funding cuts, and immigration crackdowns that are straining families. Volunteers also collected pet food, with a Youngstown-area charity planning another free pet food giveaway Jan. 11.
