Here are the top stories today in Oklahoma City:

  1. The OKC Broncos baseball team is out thousands of dollars in stolen equipment after they say vandals took aim at their facility. Brenden Gateley, a board member for the team, says the crime happened last Thursday when the vandals broke into their facility, tore through two sheds, and took thousands of dollars in equipment. While the team is working with police to solve this, they say more than anything, they're just looking to get their equipment back worth an estimated $25,000 to $30,000. (OKC Fox)
  2. An Oklahoma City teenager will have to wait 18 weeks to receive her amended birth certificate after her name was spelled incorrectly on it. While Virginia Brockman waits for her birth certificate, she is missing out on being able to drive and a way to retain ID so she can cash her checks. The Health Department oversees the vital records and has stated a larger than normal increase in the number of requests for birth record amendments due to discrepancies in their names over the last two years. (KOCO)
  3. The Oklahoma City Public School district has ditched the asynchronous learning days they had previously built into the 2021-2022 calendar, citing "extremely low" student attendance as the reason. (OKC Fox)
  4. Candidates may file through today to run in the City of Oklahoma City’s mayoral election, with voting in the general election set for Feb. 8. (OKC Gov)
  5. An Arizona-based wireless carrier, Consumer Cellular, is opening an OKC customer service center which will employ around 300 people. (Oklahoman)
