Here are the top three stories today in Oklahoma City:
- Patients at the Oklahoma Institute of Allergy & Asthma are concerned about the safety of their medical records after finding locked doors at the clinic and a sign that claims a security breach occurred two weeks ago. Dr. Amy Darter Weaver with the Oklahoma Institute of Allergy and Asthma Immunology said the clinic has been unable to access electronic records or their office phones, leaving them unable to contact patients. However, a spokesperson for the FBI said there have been no reports of a cyber breach at the clinic. Many clinic employees have been furloughed due to the shutdown, while the ones that remain are working to distribute patients' medications to other providers. (KOCO News 5)
- Brian Maughan, the district two commissioner for Oklahoma County has spoken out about the recent inmate deaths at the Oklahoma County jail. There have been 43 inmate deaths since 2021 when the facility came under the leadership of the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority. Maughan is expecting a "night and day" difference in jail conditions after the new facility opens in three to five years. He explained that the new facility won't have the same issues as the current facility, such as the high-rise design that causes current logistical problems. (The Oklahoman)
- One person was arrested following a lockdown at Webster Middle School on Monday. Nathaniel Jones, 21, was on the school's campus to pick up his younger brother, but he wasn't on the approved pick-up list. While he was there, school officials noticed he had a gun. Police responded to the scene and asked Jones if he was armed, and he responded that he was. Jones was then taken into custody and charged with carrying a gun on school property. Oklahoma City Police said there were no threats made toward the school. (News 9)
