Here are the top stories in Oklahoma City today:
- The Homeless Alliance opened several overnight shelters as temperatures dropped over the weekend. Whenever temperatures are predicted to be below freezing, the Alliance implements its cold contingency plan so no one has to sleep in those brutal temperatures. The shelters are in a much better place to care for people; they were open at full capacity and COVID-19 protocols were put in place. (news9.com KWTV)
- The Rachmaninoff Festival with Oklahoma City Philharmonic will take place at 8 p.m. on Jan. 8. The festival will be located at the Civic Center Music Hall on N. Walker Ave. The tickets cost $27 and up. (metrofamilymagazine.com)
- Conversations around Oklahoma City's flawed jail and its proposed replacement include such topics as how tall the new facility should be to what level of security inmates will find themselves in when, or if, it opens someday. A topic of particular interest is bail reform in response to this change in Oklahoma City jails. Bail reform could also help to limit the number of nonviolent, low-level offenders in jails.
