Here are the top stories today in Oklahoma City:

  1. The number of homicides in Oklahoma City this year surpassed 90 this weekend. A string of violent deaths across the metro region caused the number of incidents to reach a record high over the past four years. Two deadly shootings on Fairhill Avenue and MacArthur Avenue contributed to the new total. At the current rate, 2021 could see the most homicides in a decade. (Oklahoma City Free Press)
  2. New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that coronavirus cases in Oklahoma County have risen by 69.4 percent. The total number of recorded cases in the county between Dec. 6-12 equaled 1,464. The surge in cases parallels a rise in infections nationally that is being driven by the delta variant of the virus, according to the CDC. (Oklahoma City Patch)
  3. An Oklahoma City woman faces charges after she left her kids at home while visiting a bar. Police discovered the children unattended while performing a welfare check at the home of 27-year-old Perla Aguilar. Officers found a baby sleeping face down, and there was no heat in the home. Aguilar has been charged with child neglect, driving under the influence, and driving under suspension. (KOKH FOX25)
