Winter Weather Warning Issued For OKC, Much Of Oklahoma: NWS

The warning lasts from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Thursday, and 3 to 5 inches of snow and ice accumulation are expected.

OKLAHOMA — Much of Oklahoma is under a winter storm warning until Thursday and significant snow and ice accumulation is possible in the state, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning lasts from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Thursday and includes most of the counties in Oklahoma north and west of Bryan County on the Texas-Oklahoma border, according to the National Weather Service Norman.

That puts most of northwestern, northern, central and southern Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, under the warning. A few counties in the southwestern part of the state — Jackson, Kiowa, Washita, Custer, Dewey, Roger Mills, Beckham, Greer and Harmon — are under a winter weather advisory. Most of the eastern part of the state, including the Tulsa area, is under a winter storm watch.

Widespread snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected for counties in the warning area along with a quarter-inch of ice, while 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected for those counties under the winter weather advisory. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected across the state, and wind chills could be as low as -15 degrees in the warning area, according to NWS.

The National Weather Service warned people against traveling during the winter weather as hazardous conditions could impact morning and evening commutes.
