Here are the top stories in Tulsa today:

  1. A Tulsa man was sentenced to life in prison on Monday morning after a body was found at Chandler Park in January of last year. 26-year-old Nicholas McCarty allegedly told deputies with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office that he acted alone in strangling 54-year-old Keli Gilbert. McCarty has received a life sentence for the unlawful moving of a body and a second life sentence without parole for the murder conviction. (KOKI FOX 23 TULSA)
  2. Tulsa County Commissioners have announced plans to repair and expand its juvenile detention facility. Facility leaders say the modifications are necessary because the building was not designed to house juveniles accused of violent crimes, some of whom have taken their frustration out on the facility and staff. The county estimates that the construction of a new wing to house violent offenders would cost $5 million. (News On 6)
  3. Tulsa Public Schools will not hold classes this Friday, Apr. 29, in honor of the district's April holiday. The Enrollment Center, along with all schools and district sites, will also be closed. Due to the holiday, the weekly email sent to parents on Fridays will be on hiatus. (Press Release Desk)
