Good evening,

I am guessing that you too are watching the weather forecast for this week closely. We wanted to be sure that you are aware that we are working closely with the National Weather Service and the Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency to monitor weather conditions. Based on the current forecast, we expect precipitation and a significant drop in temperatures starting during the day on Wednesday. Precipitation and low temperatures are then expected to continue overnight, and predictions indicate likely hazardous road conditions on Thursday and Friday.

Given the potential for a shift in forecasted conditions, we have not yet made any decisions about inclement weather closures. Our commitment is to carefully consider the safety of your family and our team along with the critical need for our students to be in school in person. We anticipate making a decision not later than 10pm tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 1, although we hope to have stable models by the late afternoon and update you in the early evening.

We make those inclement weather announcements through:

  • Updates to local television and radio outlets.

  • With the strong likelihood of significant inclement weather conditions, we want to ensure that our team members and families have as much time as possible to prepare. There are some things you can do now to prepare for inclement weather:

    • If you do not receive an inclement weather update before dismissal time tomorrow, please make sure that your child brings home the supplies and devices they need for a distance learning day;

    • Make sure we have a current cell phone number for you - click here to update your contact information;

    • Have a back-up plan for childcare in the event that schools are closed; and

  • Contact 211 Eastern Oklahoma by phone at 2-1-1 or by texting your zip code to 898-211 if you need assistance with warm clothing, shelter, utility payments or other resources and services.

    Best,

    Deborah A. Gist, Superintendent
