GRANTS PASS, OR — The entrepreneurial spirit is strong in Grants Pass, Oregon, these days. Not only home to the growing Dutch Bros coffee franchise, Grants Pass will also be recognized for its growing cannabis industry, which most recently revealed a special strain dedicated to the most recent addition to the Royal Family.
While it's definitely timely marketing, it's not as much a reach as you might think. Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has family in Oregon, apparently — a half-nephew who hopes to capitalize on his extended family's popularity by launching the "Markle Sparkle" cannabis strain this summer.
Licensed cannabis grower Tyler Dooley, 25, created the strain, according to Leafbuyer.com, an all-things-cannabis website based out of Denver, Colorado. Dooley is the son of Markle's half-brother, Thomas Markle.

"(Markle Sparkle), in flower and concentrate form, will be officially unveiled in person on June 2, 2018, at the High Times Cannabis Cup Northern California event in Santa Rosa, California at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds," according to a Leafbuyer.com blog post. "Dooley, along with representatives from Leafbuyer.com, will be showcasing samples of 'Markle Sparkle,' which will ultimately sell at dispensaries for approximately $280/oz."
Sadly, Meghan and Harry won't get to (legally) try the honorary strain in the UK, where cannabis is still very much illegal. But Dooley apparently hopes to share his stash with them should they ever come back to the states for a visit.

“Meghan grew up in California and I am sure she has an American view on pot,” Dooley told the Daily Mail for an article published in April. “I know in England that marijuana is still a taboo subject but it’s more normal to us here because we grew up around it in high school. Everybody experiments with it here.
"Prince Harry enjoys a good party," Dolley continued. "I’d be happy to show them around if they ever come out here and educate them on the medicinal benefits of marijuana which helps everything from post-traumatic stress syndrome to insomnia to pain in cancer patients."
