No Tsunami Threat For Oregon Coast After Japan Earthquake

The United States Geological Society says that a 7.3 earthquake off Japan will not cause a tsunami here.

PORTLAND, OR — The United States Geological Survey says there is no need for a tsunami warning for the Oregon Coast. The announcement came after an early morning earthquake off of Japan.

The quake happened around 7:36 Pacific Daylight Time.

The USGS says that the 7.3 earthquake was centered around 35 miles from the east coast of Honshu, Japan's main island.

It's not only Oregon that's in the clear. The USGS says that no tsunami warning is needed for California, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska.
