Hospital Fire Handled Quickly By 2 Agencies
A small fire in an elevator shaft that was reportedly being worked on broke out Wednesday morning at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

BEAVERTON, OR — A scary situation at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center on Wednesday ended disaster-free when firefighters from two agencies quickly extinguished a fire that started in an upper floor elevator shaft at the hospital.
Crews from Tualatin Valley and Portland fire & rescue responded to the one-alarm fire at 9205 S.W. Barnes Rd. in the West Haven-Sylvan area just before 10:30 a.m. June 27.
At the scene, firefighters found smoke and a small fire coming from an elevator shaft. They quickly began ventilating the smoke and snuffing out the fire, officials said, noting that no patients were affected during the incident and no evacuations were required.

A few patients were reportedly move to rooms further from the affected area as a safety precaution and to reduce any chances for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire appears to be related to work being done within the elevator by a subcontractor, TVF&R officials said.
