New Dumpster Service Proposed for Beaverton

Thunderbird Drop Box Asks Beaverton for Franchise
Promises Lower Prices, More Recycling & Better Customer Service
Thunderbird Drop Box hopes the Beaverton City Council approves its new application for a franchise to provide dumpster services in the community by promising lower prices, recycling, and better customer service. The Council is expected to vote on the application this fall.
Thunderbird is asking local homeowners, businesses, and others to support their effort with an online petition at www.BeavertonRecycling.com and they can also reach Thunderbird through the company’s website www.Thunderbirddropbox.com

“Our roll-off drop box company offers easy and affordable recycling services for clients by renting large containers for residential and commercial use,” said Thunderbird Co-Owner Jax Garrett. “Whether you have a small home renovation or a big industrial project, cost-effective, environmentally friendly options are important.”
If the city approves Thunderbird’s franchise application, most residential and commercial debris would be hauled to GreenWay Recycling in NW Portland which offers the highest recycling rates available in the metro region.

Thunderbird and GreenWay are both local, family and minority-owned businesses seeking to reduce the amount of waste going into local landfills. Terrell Garrett is the owner of GreenWay Recycling. He’s the Co-Owner of Thunderbird along with his daughter Jax Garrett.
Under present conditions, all the drop boxes from Beaverton currently go to the garbage transfer station in Hillsboro or the facility in Sherwood. Currently, disposal prices are 7-9% above what Thunderbird will offer, and recycling rates at these locations are half what GreenWay offers (up to 20% gets recycled compared to over 50% at GreenWay).
One stark example of the price difference is a wood drop box. “If you contract for a 40-yard dumpster to haul off old wood it will cost $1,884 in most Beaverton locations because the hauler takes it to the Hillsboro facility,” noted Terrell Garrett. “If Thunderbird provided the same service, the bin would be around $654 because we would transport it to a North Portland recycler. That’s a huge cost savings.”
Thunderbird is named to honor the family’s Hispanic and Native American heritage. Jax Garrett enjoyed talking with residents and business community members at Thunderbird’s booth during the recent Beaverton Community Expo sponsored by the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce.
