• John Varley (1947-2025) (locusmag.com) — Beloved science fiction author John Varley has died at age 78 in his Beaverton home, where he had been living with COPD and diabetes. Varley was internationally known for his Eight Worlds stories, Gaean trilogy, and many award-winning short works. His long career brought Hugo, Nebula, Locus, and other major honors, leaving a legacy cherished by readers worldwide and neighbors here in Beaverton.
