Gresham Apartment Fire Displaces Many, Minorly Injures Some

An apartment fire started in a Gresham apartment building early Thursday morning.

A Thursday morning apartment fire in Gresham left dozens without homes amidst freezing temperatures.

Crews battled the Aldercrest Apartments blaze in the 21900 block of Southeast Alder Avenue shortly after 8 a.m., according to KGW News. KOIN 6 News reported that the fire started in a downstairs after residents said they'd heard explosions.

"A frozen fire hydrant delayed response, and firefighters had to use others nearby," the story said. "In total, the fire destroyed 8 units of a single building."

Fire officials told reporters Thursday that oxygen tanks in one of the lower-level apartments may have led to the fire. All tenants escaped the fire with minor injuries, such as smoke inhalation or minor burns, said KGW News. No one was taken to the hospital.
