Gresham Opens Electric Vehicle Charging Stations For The Public

GRESHAM, OR — Gresham is going electric.

The city has completed an electric vehicle charging station project made possible by a $280,000 grant from Portland General Electric's Dive Change Fund. Thanks to the grant, Gresham was able to purchase 16 charging stations for the public, 12 fleet charging stations for city vehicles, and two electric vehicles for the city, officials said.

"As the owner of an electric vehicle, I am proud that our City is increasing the availability and access to electric vehicle charging stations," Mayor Travis Stovall said. "Electric vehicles provide a tremendous benefit to not only our environment but to users as well and I am excited to see Gresham continue to make progress in this area."

So far, charging stations have been installed at Rockwood Market Hall, City Hall, the Rockwood Public Safety Building, and in downtown Gresham, the city said.

In addition to serving residents with electric vehicles, officials said the new stations would save the city money.

"The addition of charging station infrastructure and electric vehicles to replace our older fossil fuel fleet will reduce long-term operating and maintenance costs for our ratepayers," Gresham Sustainability Manager Shannon Martin said.
