'Sanctuary City' Activists Plan Tuesday March to Hillsboro Civic Center
The sanctuary city proponents are hoping Hillsboro follows Beaverton's lead in naming the city a safe place for all people.

A group of activists rallying for "sanctuary cities" is planning a march Tuesday evening to Hillsboro's Civic Center.
Members of WashCo Solidarity, the Student Movement, Voz Hispana and Milenio are taking up arms at 5 p.m. from Shute Park and heading to the center, 150 E. Main Street, to demand that the Hillsboro City Council pass a resolution to make it a sanctuary city, according to the Hillsboro Tribune.

"Hillsboro's council has deliberated and discussed the same move since early December, when WashCo Solidarity and Voz Hispana members demanded the city take action, but the council has so far been reluctant to give Hillsboro the same designation," the article said. "'Sanctuary city' is a legally non-binding term used by cities to indicate they will protect undocumented immigrants and other marginalized groups — including the LGBTQ community, religious groups, and people of color — from deportation or other acts of hate."
