Woman Dies In House Fire While Trying To Save Pet Cat

An electrical fire engulfed a mobile home in Hillsboro early Monday, killing one of the two residents and a pet cat.

HILLSBORO, OR — A 55-year-old woman was killed early Monday morning when she ran back into her Hillsboro mobile home to retrieve her cat while the home was fully engulfed in fire, according to fire department officials.

Larry and Cynthia Ann Stephens were at their mobile home in the 1900-block of Southeast Minter Bridge Road when an electrical fire broke out just before 5 a.m. March 19.

Larry was able to escape along with their dog; but Cynthia, who was at the doorway with her husband before turning back into the home, was killed along with the cat she was trying to rescue.

Hillsboro fire officials announced the deadly fire via the department's @HillsboroFire Twitter account.
