Jail Inmate Dies In Custody: Washington County Sheriff

HILLSBORO, OR — A second person died while in custody at the Washington County Jail, the Washington Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday.

Crystal Leuenberger, 35, who was arrested Monday and charged with identity theft and violating parole, died at about 2:40 a.m., the sheriff's office said. No cause of death was given; the medical examiner will determine that.

Leuenberger had been in jail for less than 24 hours, according to the sheriff's office. She had not yet been arraigned, court records said.

Bryce Bybee, 22, was found unresponsve in his bed at the jail on April 17, the sheriff's office said. He had been arrested in March and charged with armed robbery.

The medical examiner has not announced a cause of death yet in Bybee's case.
