Building in Milwaukie holds affordable housing units; Pictures available to media

The Housing Authority of Clackamas County (HACC) has completed its rehabilitation of Hillside Manor in Milwaukie.

Hillside Manor is a nine-story concrete building constructed in 1970, operated by HACC since that time. The building is comprised of 100 affordable housing units and is home to an active resident community including seniors and people with disabilities, many of whom have very long tenure in their residences.

In May 2020, HACC broke ground on the rehabilitation. The construction scope included crucial upgrades to the building’s structure to keep residents safe, including:

• asbestos abatement
• earthquake-safety upgrades
• interior apartment remodels
• updates to mechanical, electrical and plumbing
• refurbished elevators
• enhanced energy efficiency
• community garden upgrades
• renovated community spaces (meeting room, kitchen, living room, mail room)
• exterior site improvements

The improvements will provide for a healthier living environment for the residents, while extending the useful life of the building for decades to come.

The rehabilitation was completed with resident and staff input, professional building assessments and the guidance of a skilled architectural and engineering team.

A small Open House was held last week to recognize the occasion. Pictures from the event can be accessed (and used for media purposes).
