1. Oppenlander park development likely to require ballot measure (westlinntidings.com) — West Linn leaders are eyeing a November 2026 bond measure to help buy and develop 1.2 acres of the Oppenlander property into a city park, after earlier talks with the school district collapsed. With no current funding for purchase, development, or maintenance, councilors are weighing options between ball fields or a more passive park while residents strongly favor preserving the grove of trees.

The Final 15 (slj.com) — A part-time youth librarian at the West Linn Public Library, Steven Engelfried, has helped select the 15 books for the 2026 Heavy Medal Mock Newbery reading and discussion list. He and colleague Emily weighed nominations, reader polls, and genre balance to finalize the titles, plus chose DEATH IN THE JUNGLE for a warm-up discussion. Local children’s lit fans can follow the blog’s late-December schedule to read along and join the conversation.
