Abington Schools Announce Early Dismissal Due To Impending Storm

Abington School District administrators said students would be let out one hour early Monday because of the severe weather forecast.

ABINGTON, PA — Abington School District officials announced Monday that students would be let out early due to a severe weather forecast.

High School students would be dismissed at 1:35 p.m., junior high-schoolers would be going home at 2 p.m. and elementary schools would let out at 2:20 p.m.

The announcement comes after forecasters warned of some possible severe weather Monday afternoon, including possible heavy rains, thunder, strong winds and even the possibility for tornadoes.

Abington officials also said all after-school activities would be cancelled due to the forecast.

"We thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure our students and staff get home safely," the district posted to Facebook.

Other schools across the region have also announced earlier dismissals due to the weather forecast.
