Abington Welcomes its Newest Lieutenant

Kelley Warner, a 24-year veteran of the Abington Police Department, was promoted to Lieutenant during Thursday night’s Abington Board of Commissioners meeting.

District Justice John Kessler swore Warner in during a brief ceremony at the podium while her children stood by.

Warner has a master’s degree in criminal justice from West Chester University; has been an adjunct professor, teaching criminal justice at Penn State since 1998; and has been with the Abington Police Department for 24 years, having started as a patrol officer and a DARE instructor. 

She was the first female member of the police department’s tactical team, and also served with the detectives’ bureau. Since 2000, Warner has been a patrol sergeant, a crisis negotiation unit leader and a field training officer sergeant.

Warner thanked her family, and jokingly said that she is a police officer because her sister made her watch “Cagney & Lacey” as a child.

Board of Commissioners President Peggy Myers congratulated Warner and said, “You’ve made every woman in here a little prouder.”
