Dean Sworn In

Abington Commissioner Madeleine Dean was sworn in as State Rep., D-153, last week at the Capitol in Harrisburg. 

Dean talked about her new role at the end of the May 10 Abington Board of Commissioners meeting.

“I had the really great honor and privilege this [May 8] to be sworn in as your newest state representative,” Dean said. “And so, I wanted to just tell you that my heart is very full. I find it to be an extraordinary honor to be serving Abington and Upper Dublin. I want to thank my colleagues here on the board, across the aisle. You were very encouraging to me [and] you were thoughtful of my consideration to run. You wished me well, and I hope you keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I move forward.

It was a very special election, because I was running to fill the very large shoes of somebody who’s very well respected in this community, Josh Shapiro, who is now our county commissioner,” Dean continued.

She said she is “jumping right in” to the legislative session, and added that she is now involved in budget considerations, as the budget must be passed by June 30. 

Dean said in an earlier interview that it is too early to decide whether she will step down as Abington Commissioner.

The 153^rd district encompasses most of Abington and six precincts in Upper Dublin.

Dean is assigned to the finance, human services and urban affairs committees; she will share office 102 in the East Wing with State Rep. Kevin Boyle, D-172, who represents northeast Philadelphia.
