PennDOT Announces Greenwood Avenue Bridge Closure
The bridge, which crosses the SEPTA tracks near the Jenkintown-Wyncote Train Station, will be out for more than a year.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today that crews will begin construction on a new Greenwood Avenue bridge on Monday, June 25.
The 73-year-old, structurally deficient bridge, which crosses SEPTA railroad tracks near the Jenkintown-Wyncote Station, will be replaced with a new, one-span, steel girder bridge, according to a June 7 PennDOT press release.

It is expected to re-open in September 2013.
According to the press release, the new bridge will be 94 feet long, 48 feet wide and will feature three 11-foot-wide lanes, and 5-foot-wide sidewalks.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, is the general contractor on the $5.45 million project; the rebuild will be financed with state funds.
Aesthetically speaking, the walls of the new bridge will be given a stained stone look to match other buildings in the area. The bridge will also be given a decorative black fence on top of the bridge walls.
As for the detour, PennDOT said drivers will be diverted along Church Road to Washington Lane, to Township Line Road.
