Highland Avenue Opening After SPS Technologies Fire

Over two months after the SPS Technologies fire, Highland Avenue is expected to reopen on Monday, officials said.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Highland Avenue will finally reopen after being closed for over two months following the SPS Technologies fire, officials said.

Abington Township officials announced that Highland Avenue will reopen to traffic between Mt. Carmel Avenue and Wharton Road on Monday.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, SPS Technologies will employ flaggers when necessary to allow movement of materials across Highland Avenue.

Traffic is expected to move normally from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday, officials said.

A massive fire damaged the 600,000-square-foot SPS Technologies building in mid-February. Nearly 70 fire companies throughout the Philadelphia region battled the blaze for several days.

For safety purposes, residents should remain outside the fenced area surrounding the SPS Technologies property.

Officials said only authorized personnel can access the SPS Technologies property and building.
