Josh Shapiro Secures Democratic Nomination For PA Governor

Josh Shapiro, the current Pennsylvania attorney general running for governor, secured the Democratic nomination. He ran unopposed.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Josh Shapiro, the Pennsylvania attorney general who has his sights set on the governor's seat, has won the Democratic gubernatorial race, according to media reports and social media posts

Shapiro, who lives in Abington Township, Montgomery County, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary race Tuesday.

An article in the Philadelphia Inquirer says Shapiro was the first non-incumbent to run unopposed in a Democratic primary contest since 1930.

Shapiro, who was isolating at home Tuesday after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Monday, acknowledged the expected win in a Facebook post Tuesday evening.

"I'm humbled and honored to be your Democratic nominee for Governor of Pennsylvania," Shapiro posted to Facebook. "No matter which dangerous extremist we're against this November, the stakes are too damn high for anything but a victory."
