Sci Phi Fest Begins Friday At Hiway Theatre

The Jenkintown movie house will open its three-day festival with "Mars Attacks" and end it with "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

JENKINTOWN, PA —Get ready for Mars to Attack again. Or maybe you'll have another close encounter from outer space.

But don't worry: Maybe RoboCop, Godzilla, or a crew from Star Trek will come to the rescue.

Science Fiction will be the movie topic for the Hiway Theatre's three-day "Sci Phi Festival" on March 22-24.

The theater on 212 York Road will once again show the Oscar-sweeping "Oppenheimer" starting Friday and running through Sunday. Click here for showtimes.

Next comes the science fiction festival, billed as the "Sci Phi Fest" since Jenkintown is not far from Philadelphia's borders.

Starting March 22, the Hiway Theatre will show a Friday double feature of the classic cult film "Mars Attacks" at 7 p.m. and "Killer Klowns from Outter Space" at 10 p.m.

Saturday features five films: "The Iron Giant" at 10 a.m., "Godzilla" at "12:30 p.m., "Ghost in the Shell" at 3 p.m., "RoboCop" at 7 p.m., and "Scanners" at 9:45 p.m.

Sunday wraps up the festival with "Star Trek: First Contact" at Noon and concludes with "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" at 4 p.m.
