Powerline Causes Smoldering Tree In Montco Tuesday Afternoon

Firefighters were called out to Abington Township Tuesday afternoon after a report of a portion of a tree that had been smoldering.

ABINGTON, PA — Firefighters and utility company representatives were called out to Abington's North Hills neighborhood Tuesday afternoon after residents called to report a tree branch that had been smoldering undeath of an overhead power line.

Montgomery County emergency alerts shows that the call came in a little after 2 p.m.

Firefighters roped off the intersection of Elm and Hawthorne Avenues as they waited on PECO representatives to arrive at the scene.

Patch was there at around 3:30 p.m., as a firefighter was seen dousing the still-smoldering tree.

A fire official at the scene said that the issue was like caused by a primary power line resting along a part of the tree.

The scene was quickly placed under control and there was no threat to any nearby homes.

Residents said that the tree had been smoldering for quite some time.

Flames did not seem to be present, but smoke was seen billowing from the top of the tree.
