Proposed New Abington Middle School Going To Voters
Abington School Directors voted Tuesday night to place the school plan on a referendum for the May 20 primary election.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Plans for a new middle school are going before voters.
The Abington School Board unanimously voted at its meeting Tuesday night to put a $285 million Abington Middle School investment plan on the ballot during the May 20 primary election.
Eligible voters in Abington Township and the Borough of Rockledge will vote on the plan.

After years of debate and surveys, the board decided that a new Abington Middle School to replace the current Abington Middle School in the same space was the best way to go.
Based on facility assessments, expert analysis, and extensive community input, the Abington School District is proposing to build a new middle school, thus creating a modern learning environment that school officials said would meet today’s needs and prepare students for the future.

- A new design will provide a purposeful layout for middle school education. It will feature a “small school community” through grade-specific classrooms and learning areas that support personalized learning, collaboration, and belonging.
- A new building will enhance accessibility, safety, and security.
- A flexible design will allow the District to more easily adapt to educational programming, social-emotional interventions and support, and activities that enhance student learning and growth.
- The new infrastructure will reduce energy use and maintenance costs.
