Today is the seventh annual Roslyn Pet Fair — an event that is becoming something of a staple for Abington residents.

Abington Commissioner Lori Schreiber, an animal lover (she has a dog named Savannah and a cat named Riesling), created the event; it started as part of a series called Second Saturdays in Summer in Roslyn — a revitalization effort also meant to bolster the sense of community in the area.

“While doing that, I started to realize how many animal lovers were in Abington Township — myself included — and I knew that it would take off, and it’s now been seven years,” Schreiber said.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday on the grounds of Living Word Lutheran Church at 1250 Easton Road. (It originally took place at a small parking lot on Bradfield Road near the Roslyn Fire Co., but has since grown.)

Twenty-two vendors, including animal rescue organizations, vets and pet care companies will be in attendance.

[Abington Patch will also be at the event with the Abington Patch dog Lola. Stop by and say hi.]

Like last year, Abington Director of Code Enforcement Larry Matteo will be working the raffle booth. Some of the prizes include Phillies tickets, a dog food bowl set and a two-day, two-night stay at a pet spa (probably for animals). All of the raffle ticket money goes to animal rescue organizations.

And, of course, well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome.
