School Food Drive Off To Strong Start In Abington, Superintendent Says
The Abington School Board was updated on the schoolwide food drive at its Nov. 11 meeting.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The school district's food drive has collected 700 items so far in its second week, Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Fecher announced at the school board's recent meeting.
The superintendent thanked the community for helping stock local food pantries and feed Abington and Rockledge families directly.
Collection boxes have been stationed at all school buildings, and the Administration Building has also been available for members of the general public who wish to donate.

Fecher said that over 700 items have been collected, including canned goods, boxed foods, paper supplies, diapers, and personal care items. Additionally, the Student Services Department has been working hard to compile food baskets and to distribute grocery gift cards in order to provide support to more than 150 Abington families this month.
He also thanked ACME Markets for donating $1,000 worth of $25 gift cards to Abington School District as part of the Nourishing Neighbors Program. The gift cards will be distributed by the Student Services Department to ASD families in need.

High Praise For Abington High Schoolers
The superintendent also praised the Abington Senior High School Boys Varsity Soccer team for winning the PIAA State Semi-final, which means the team is advancing to the state championship on Friday.
He also congratulated the Abington Senior High School Marching Band, which recently competed at the state championships and swept the caption awards for their class. As Class IV/A Pennsylvania State Champions, Abington scored 88.80, earning Best Music, Best Visual, Best Color Guard, Best Percussion and Best Overall Effect.
In other school board business:
- A contract was awarded to Penn Builders, Inc., for the reinstallation of millwork wall panels at Abington Senior High School.
- A contract was awarded to Morton Salt, Inc., for bulk rock salt through the Montgomery County Consortium of Communities.
- The Administration will enter into an agreement with Rooted Tree Productions, Inc., to provide District space for the organization's summer theater program.
- A settlement stipulation agreement was reached regarding the assessment appeal for tax parcel no: 30-00-66644-00-7, known as the Fairway.
- A five-year lease renewal agreement extension was approved from Dec. 1, 2025, to Dec. 1, 2030, between the Abington School District and Abington Township for the rental of the property located at 1220 Huntingdon Road, for $1.00 annually.
- The Administration will work with the solicitor to develop, finalize, and execute an amendment/extension to the lease agreement with Abington Township for the Ardsley School Property through June 30, 2026.
- The Administration will enter into a Professional Services Agreement with ICS Consulting, LLC, including for Capital Planning Services and Development of a Five-Year Plan, and for On-Call Professional Services.
