EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — SEPTA has begun work on its bridge over Easton Road that will last through April 18.

SEPTA said drivers should expect single-lane restriction with flagging for Glenside’s inbound and outbound platform construction on SEPTA Bridge Over Easton Road in Abington and Cheltenham townships.

The work began Monday and will last through April 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (no weekend work) weather permitting.

SEPTA’s third-party contractor is at Glenside Regional Rail Station, demolishing the portion of platforms in place between the top of the stairwells and the end of the bridge deck over Easton Road (see orange area in map below).

Due to concerns that the work on the topside of the bridge deck could generate construction debris below the bridge, flagging a single-lane restriction will be in place underneath the bridge on Easton Road between Glenside Avenue and Mt. Carmel Avenue.

Flaggers will be in place at both intersections: Easton Road and Mt. Carmel Avenue and Easton Road and Glenside Avenue.

A mini excavator will be utilized to remove the asphalt and concrete with minimal hammering expected. Once that is complete the contractor will utilize the mini excavator and a skid steer to remove the stone base to expose the existing concrete deck, which will undergo repairs. New platforms for these impacted areas will be put in place during the first two weeks of May.

All Regional Rail services will operate as normal on weekdays during this scheduled work.

This work is part of SEPTA’s rehabilitation of SEPTA’s bridge over Easton Road and part of The Authority’s continuing efforts to bring its bridge structures into a state of good repair.

Rehabilitation efforts include structural repairs, including concrete repairs to the abutment walls, center pier support, and bridge superstructure as well as waterproofing of bridge superstructure. In addition, crews will perform partial platform replacement and repairs at Glenside RR Station.
