ABINGTON, PA — Josh Shapiro, the Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania governor and the state's current attorney general, canceled election-related events and appearances that had been scheduled for Tuesday due to a last-minute positive test for COVID-19.

Shapiro's spokesperson, Will Simons, issued a statement Tuesday morning saying that Shapiro tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of planned activities for election day, and that the result means Shapiro would now be isolating at home while voters head to the polls during Tuesday's primary contest.

"On Monday evening, after taking a precautionary test ahead of his trip to Johnstown and Pittsburgh, Attorney General Josh Shapiro tested positive for COVID-19," Simons said in the statement. "Attorney General Shapiro is currently experiencing mild symptoms, and he plans to continue his work of serving the people of Pennsylvania as he isolates at home."
