'Huge Flames' As Hedge Fire Outside Abington Home Generates Large Firefighter Response
Firefighters were seen battling a hedge fire outside a home in Abington Friday, and those at the scene say it might have been spontaneous.
ABINGTON, PA — Hedges outside of an Abington Township home went up in flames early Friday afternoon, and firefighters who came out to battle the blaze said the fire could have been caused spontaneously.
Patch was there as fire crews put out the flames outside of the home at the intersection of Monroe and Grant Avenues in the township's North Hills neighborhood.
Neighbors on the street said that there were "huge flames" that had reached as high as the home's roofline just before fire crews arrived and doused the blaze.

Firefighters at the scene said it's possible that the cause was spontaneous, meaning it might have been caused by super dry and sunny conditions.
One firefighter said that blazes like this could possibly be caused by something like a piece of glass reflecting the sunlight, which in turn could lead to a spark on the mulch below the hedges and causing a fire to break out.

While there was initial speculation and some theories about what may have led to the fire, no official cause was immediately released.
The hedges butt up against a deck off of the second floor of the home, but the deck seemed to be unaffected by the fire.
Fire crews from various area departments could be seen at the fire location, including firefighters with Roslyn Fire Company, Glenside Fire Company, Edge Hill Fire Company, Abington Fire Company and Weldon Fire Company.
