Stolen Vehicle Causes Crash In Montco, Suspect In Custody: Police

An individual riding in a stolen vehicle crashed into a second vehicle and caused two people to be sent to the hospital.

ABINGTON, PA — Two people were reportedly sent to the hospital with injuries following an early morning vehicle accident in this eastern Montgomery County community, a crash that was apparently caused by a suspect operating a stolen vehicle, local police said.

The vehicle crash closed down Old Welsh Road between Old York Road & Easton Road and also Rockwell Road between Tremont Road and Parkview Avenue, according to the Abington Township Police Department.

Photos from the scene posted to social media show a mangled vehicle off of the roadway and numerous emergency responders.

Two people were reportedly transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, but their condition was not yet known, according to police.

Police said an individual driving a stolen vehicle appeared to be responsible for hitting the third vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody but his or her name was not yet released pending the formal filing of charges.

Neighbors on social media posted that the two vehicles involved appeared to be a minivan and a black sedan.

Emergency Alerts of Southeastern Pennsylvania posted on social media that police, fire and medics were all dispatched to the accident scene, and neighbors posted that there was a heavy presence of emergency vehicles at the scene.

Police said they were still working to notify family members of the victims about the crash and related injuries.

Police said the suspect who was arrested is likely to be charged with receiving stolen property, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle and possibly other counts.
