Troop 1 in Abington to Sell Mother's Day Flowers

Looking for some last minute flowers for Mother’s Day? Boy Scouts of America Troop 1 in Abington has you covered. 

The Troop, which is based out of , and is in the Cradle of Liberty Council, will be selling flowers this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the corner of Baeder and Old York roads.

According to Assistant Scout Master William Niehoff — who has a child in Troop 1, and another child in Pack 1 — the Troop has been selling flowers for about four years as part of its fundraising program.

“We usually do presales in April and then on Mother’s Day, we do the street sale on Baeder and York roads. There are usually four Scouts out there, and four adults … working in shifts,” Niehoff said.

There are about 25 Boy Scouts in the Troop, according to Niehoff. 

The money raised will go toward the purchase of better tents and camping equipment; it’s important as the Troop camps 10 months out of the year, Niehoff said. 

What’s on sale? Niehoff said the Scouts are selling everything from 4-inch potted plants (two for $2.50 or five for $10), to bouquets ($7), to hanging plants ($20). 

The Scouts will accept cash, checks and credit cards (though using the latter will cost you 6 percent more due to credit card fees).

“The flower sale is extremely important to us,” Niehoff said. “It goes toward summer camp activities and helps us build a better quality unit.”
