4 PA Macy’s Stores To Close

PENNSYLVANIA — Macy’s is moving forward with plans announced last February to close 66 stores, including four in Pennsylvania, the department store chain said Thursday. Among those closing in Pennsylvania is the iconic Center City Philadelphia location.

The majority of the stores are expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, the company said.

Over three years in a plan described as Macy’s “Bold New Chapter,” the company plans to close 150 underperforming stores while at the same time investing more heavily in 350 stores that will remain open, a news release stated. Macy's is hoping to return to "sustainable, profitable sales growth" with these closures, the company said.

Macy’s stores closing in Pennsylvania are:

• Logan Valley Mall, 5580 Goods Lane, Suite 2178, Altoona
• Exton Square Mall, 245 Exton Square Mall, Exton
• Philadephia City Center, 1300 Market Street, Philadelphia
• Wyoming Valley Mall, 59 Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre

“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” Macy’s chairman and CEO Tony Spring said in the news release.
