Camper Taking 28 Snakes To PA Reptile Show Crashes On I-95

The reptiles — including a venomous viper snake — were headed to a reptile show before the crash on I-95 in North Carolina.

WILSON COUNTY, NC — A camper carrying more than two dozen snakes to a reptile show in Pennsylvania was rear-ended by a box truck on a North Carolina highway Tuesday morning, according to authorities and a report.

A spokesperson for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before midnight Tuesday near mile marker 119 on Interstate 95 in Wilson County. According to police, a trailer camper was traveling northbound when it was rear-ended by the box truck.

According to a report by WRAL-TV, the driver of the truck suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Raleigh for treatment. Authorities believe he fell asleep at the wheel before the collision, the report said.

It's unclear if the driver will face charges.

The camper was carrying five people, 28 snakes, two tortoises, five bearded dragons, two dogs and one cat at the time of the crash, WRAL reported. A venomous viper snake was among the slithery passengers.
