Chesterbrook Academy® Preschoolers Release Ladybugs for Earth Day

Students across the state celebrated Earth Day and protecting the environment by releasing thousands of beneficial bugs into the schoolyard

On April 22, students at Chesterbrook Academy Preschools in Pennsylvania including – Philadelphia, Lancaster, Leola, Bethlehem, Catasauqua, Newtown, Exton, Newtown Square, Malvern, Wayne, Collegeville, Limerick, Horsham, and North Wales – bugged out in celebration of Earth Day as they released thousands of ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers, and trees. Students were also dressed for the occasion in the likeness of ladybugs, wearing red and black clothing and antennae.

Schools also participated in yard clean ups, planting vegetables in the school gardens, creating recycled art projects, painting flower pots, and a ladybug parade.

Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees, and shrubs. Chesterbrook Academy Preschool teaches the importance of caring for the Earth and exploring nature at an early age.
