Drastic Temperature Shift For Eastern PA As Winter Warms: Forecasters
After frigid temperatures and dangerously low wind chills, the greater Philadelphia region could see springlike weather by week's end.
The Philadelphia region will get a break from the severe cold and blustery conditions that have hammered the area throughout the holiday season, as a significant warm-up appears to be on tap, according to forecasters.
While there may be some cold rain in parts of eastern Pennsylvania on Tuesday night, warmer temperatures are on the immediate horizon, with a drastic temperature shift of roughly 30 degrees by the end of the week.
"Tired of the cold? Well, we got some good news for you," the National Weather Service's Mt. Holly, New Jersey branch shared. "A stretch of above normal temperatures are expected this week with relatively benign weather until some widespread rain comes later in the week."

While Monday's high will be only 38, temperatures will quickly rise into the upper 40s on Tuesday before reaching the 50s later in the week even the low 60s by Friday, forecasters said.
The balmy weather will stick around at least through Saturday, with a high of 61 expected again. However, the unseasonably warm weather will be accompanied by rain showers throughout the day Friday and intermittent through Saturday night.

The warming weather is at least partially attributable to the same polar vortex which ushered in Arctic air last week and again in late November, according to meteorologists.
"With the polar vortex toughening up over North America, it will create a more west-to-east flow of air across the U.S. and southern Canada, which tends to result in warmer weather conditions," Accuweather said.
