Eagles Vs. Chiefs Super Bowl Rematch: Time, Keys To The Game, Odds
The Birds are one more win away from cementing their place in Philadelphia sports lore forever.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Eagles are back on the biggest stage in sports, reaching the Super Bowl for the second time in three years and the third time in eight years. They're one win away from their second championship in franchise history, and all they need to do to cement their place in Philadelphia sports legend is dethrone the two-time reigning champs.
A very similar Birds team was here two years ago against a very similar Kansas City Chiefs team. But the Eagles are hungry. Jalen Hurts is two years wiser. So is Nick Sirianni. The Eagles also have Zack Baum. Perhaps most importantly and undeniably, they have the man that is probably the most dominant football player on the planet right now, Saquon Barkley.
These Chiefs are largely the same as the team the Eagles came so close to beating on this same stage two years ago. Like 2023, the Chiefs are coming off a dominant regular season followed by a few close wins in the playoffs that proved, once again, they are better than anyone else at winning close games. Kansas City, under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, always seems to find a way to win, and they have perfected the art of the comeback.

Here's what to know and what to watch for in Super Bowl 59:
Saquon as a force of destiny

The Eagles ended the NFC Championship game and broke the Commanders, spiritually at least, on their very first play. It was a fake rush and a toss from Hurts back to Barkley, who burst through the line and then employed a cut, a stiff-arm, a twirl, and a sprint to run for a 60 yard touchdown.
After scoring first, Washington never had the game's momentum again.
Kansas City had the eighth best rush defense in the NFL in 2024. They are good. They're not better than the seventh ranked Green Bay Packers, who Saquon rushed for 119 yards on 25 carries in Wild Card round of the playoffs.
The Chiefs will need to be extraordinary, then, to limit Saquon's damage. And if they're not, they'll need to hope for a game that's a shooting match, like Super Bowl 57's 38-35 offensive ballistic display. Barkley has only proven to be more ethereal in the playoffs thus far, and he is inevitably the difference maker and the key to the game on Sunday.
Folie à Deux
This is only the fifth game in Super Bowl history which represents a rematch between the same two teams with the same head coaches.
Other rematches include:
- Steelers over the Cowboys in 1975 and 1979
- Cowboys over the Bills in 1993 and 1994
- Giants over the Patriots in 2008 and 2012
- Chiefs over the 49ers in 2020 and 2024
- Chiefs over the Eagles in 2023 (result for 2025 still to be determined)
The team that won the first game won the rematch in all four cases, though this selection of matchups runs the gamut in nature from a trio of reaffirmed dynasties (Chiefs, Cowboys, and Steelers) to an underdog pulling off an all-time upset (the Giants, twice).
Hurts vs. Mahomes
When the Eagles and Chiefs battled in Super Bowl 57 two years ago, it marked the first time in history that two black quarterbacks played each other in the Super Bowl.
2025 will mark the second.
Jalen Hurts was well on his way to winning the MVP in 2023, and actually set a Super Bowl record with the most points scored by an individual player — 20, with three touchdowns and a two point conversion. But a late and controversial rally by the Chiefs delivered the MVP honor to Patrick Mahomes, whose excellent stat line was still well short of Hurts's historic effort.
Hurts says the loss two years ago has strengthened him and his squad, if anything.
"It lit a flame," Hurts told reporters this week, including ESPN. "(It) lit a fire in me, and to have this opportunity again is exactly what you work for."
Philly and Kansas City tradition
While the City of Brotherly Love doesn't regularly dance with the Heart of America in the world of athletics, Super Bowl 57 was not be the first time the two cities have tangoed in a championship.
This is the second Super Bowl between the cities, already putting their dynamic in a rare air. The Eagles and the Chiefs have played ten total games against each other, counting Super Bowl 57. The Birds are 5-5 in those matchups.
The Phillies first ever World Series championship in 1980 came against the Royals, who were at the time a relatively new expansion franchise and a total unknown on the national sports scene. That was the series of Mike Schmidt and Tug McGraw, Pete Rose and Steve Carlton. All time greats were in Philadelphia in '80, and while Kansas City had the better regular season record, the Phils won a convincing 4-2 series.
Perhaps the most notable recent conflict between the two regions, however, was between teams not actually located in the cities proper. In the 2022 NCAA Final Four, the University of Kansas defeated Villanova, 81-65, thwarting the most recent Wildcat run at glory.
Of course, that came after Nova beat Kansas in 2018 in the same Final Four semifinal round en route to the national championship. Nova also beat Kansas in the regional final in 2016.
When and where to watch
Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. eastern time, on Sunday, Feb. 9. It will be broadcast live on Fox.
The game will be held at the home of the New Orleans Saints, Caesars Superdome.
Kendrick Lamar will perform the half time show.
Odds and ends
The Chiefs are the favorites to win the Super Bowl at minus 126 on the Moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Chiefs are also minus 1.5 point favorites.
Both of those figures are unchanged since last week, as bettors have remained fairly consistent in their degree of confidence in favoring the Chiefs.
It marks the first time this postseason that the Birds, who were favored by more points in each successive playoff game against Green Bay, Los Angeles, and Washington, are underdogs.
The 14-2 Birds were underdogs just three times during the regular season, and they won each time.
Most analysts call for a close game, and are about evenly split as to the favorite. ESPN experts are split, one apiece, between the Eagles and Chiefs. Opta Analyst, a sports statistics analyzer, favors the Birds by a feather, giving Philly a 50.8 percent chance of winning.
