Flooding Alerts Issued In Eastern PA As New Round Of Storms Forecast

Enjoy the sunny, warm Tuesday while you can, before a spate of rain and possible flooding slams the region later this week.

PENNSYLVANIA - Enjoy the springlike weather — including Tuesday's 75 degree temperatures — while you can. A sunny, warm start to the week is set to descend into a days-long washout in the region later this week, forecast said.

Several inches of new rainfall are possible during multiple rounds of storms Wednesday through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

“Sunny to start, but increasing clouds in the afternoon,” the weather service said in a Tuesday statement. “Minor to moderate tidal flooding for coastal areas.”

As of 9:30 a.m., a coastal flood warning is in effect for Bucks County through 6 a.m. Wednesday, the weather service said.

“One to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,” the weather service said. “At this level, widespread roadway flooding occurs along tidal waterways. Some roads become impassable. Minor damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.”

There are two southeastern Pennsylvania counties under a coastal flood advisory through 1 a.m. Wednesday. The affected counties are Philadelphia and Delaware.

“Minor coastal flooding is not expected with the Tuesday morning high tide cycle,” the weather service added. “Widespread minor coastal flooding is possible for some locations during the Tuesday evening high tide cycle.”

The skies are expected to clear just in time for the weekend, with daytime highs near 60 degrees and partly sunny skies possible, forecasters said.

Here's the latest forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers, mainly after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 67. South wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 58. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
