April and May will be warmer and drier the normal, with an early hot spell in early to mid-April, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

PENNSYLVANIA — It's going to feel like summer a lot sooner in Pennsylvania this year, according to the latest long-term weather forecast predictions from the Old Farmer's Almanac.

April and May will be warmer and drier than normal, with an early hot spell in early to mid-April. Summer will be hotter than normal, with the hottest periods in early and mid-June, early to mid-July, and early to mid-August, according to the weather periodical.

The forecast also warns of a hurricane hitting the northeast region in early August and a possible tropical storm in early to mid-September.

The early hot spell is expected to occur between April 8 and April 13. The average temperature during the month of April is expected to be around 57 degrees, about five degrees above average.

The weather forecast methodology used by the Old Farmer's Almanac — which claims an accuracy rate of 80 percent — stems from a secret formula created in 1792 by their founder, Robert B. Thomas, who believed that weather on Earth was influenced by sunspots. Notes about his formula are said to be locked away in a black box at the company's offices in Dublin, New Hampshire.
