A Winter Weather Advisory is in place in Carbon and Monroe Counties until Saturday morning. The National Weather Service said it expects about 2 to 3 inches of snow with local amounts up to 4 inches in that area.

In suburban Philadelphia, residents can expect less than a half inch of snow, with up to 2 inches possible in parts of Bucks and Montgomery counties. Rain and snow showers could begin in the late afternoon. The National Weather service expects the highest likelihood of snow to arrive after 11 p.m. The snow is predicted to stop by Saturday morning.

"The danger is the snow can quickly erupt and come down at a steady clip in some areas during the afternoon and evening rush hour on Friday in the Northeast," AccuWeather's Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said. AccuWeather predicts the risk includes the metro areas of New York City, Baltimore and Philadelphia, Allentown, Scranton and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
