Lawmakers Urge NLRB To Investigate ‘Unfair Practices' At Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Four Congressional lawmakers from Pennsylvania sent a letter to federal labor officials on Thursday, urging them to investigate pending unfair labor practice charges filed against the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The letter, signed by U.S. Sens. Bob Casey and John Fetterman and Reps. Summer Lee and Chris Deluzio, called on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to investigate the more than 20 “open unfair labor practice charges” currently filed against the Post-Gazette in the ongoing labor dispute between Post-Gazette management and striking workers.

Workers at the Post-Gazette have been on strike since October 2022 after management declared an impasse in contract negotiations.

In mid-March, flaring tensions led to a physical altercation between a driver employed by the Post-Gazette and a picketer, who was hospitalized with a broken jaw as a result of the incident.

“We urge the NLRB to expedite its processing and investigation of any outstanding unfair labor practice charges to prevent any more escalation on the picket line and restore labor peace,” the letter reads. “Under the supervision of the NLRB, we hope that both parties can return to the bargaining table and return to contract talks in good faith.”
