These Are The Safest Cities In PA, According To A New Study
The new ranking looks at FBI crime data from large communities around Pennsylvania.
PENNSYLVANIA — The safest cities in Pennsylvania are mostly scattered in lesser known suburbs of some of the state's largest cities, according to a new analysis by home safety and security company Safewise.
The rankings are entirely based on FBI crime data, and only consider cities with a population above the median in each state.
The top two safest cities on the list both reported no murders or rapes in 2023, the year with the most recently available data. The list was topped by Cecil Township, which is about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. It was followed by Dallas Township, a community near the Susquehanna River just above Wilkes Barre.

The Pittsburgh metro area had one other representative in the top five: Shaler Township, just 10 miles directly north of the city.
The list was rounded out by two Cumberland County townships just a few miles away from each other and on the outer reaches of Harrisburg: Hampden Township and Upper Allen Township.

Safewise was clear that the list was not a judgement beyond any data points, and that it relied exclusively on the FBI crime data for its lists.
"For the purposes of city ranking reports, the terms 'dangerous' and 'safest' refer explicitly to crime rates as calculated from FBI crime data—no other characterization of any community is implied or intended," Safewise adds.
